Though the suffering in Darfur seems overwhelming, there are actions you can take to help stop the genocide. Here are some ideas; feel free to come up with your own and let us know about them. Whatever you choose to do, no matter how big or small it seems, you can make a difference!

Join an action campaign
- Massachusetts state divestment from Sudan and Federal divestment legislation are good examples of successful action campaigns

Support genocide-free investing - Don't allow your family savings and pension funds help fund genocide.

Darfur activists from Massachusetts have begun a national campaign to convince financial institutions to make a commitment that they will not invest in genocide. Help us send a strong message to these companies to draw the line at genocide.

Call 1-800-GENOCIDE or directly call the White House at 202-456-1111. Ask President Bush to do everything possible to implement UN resolutions for Darfur and deploy peacekeepers for Darfur. You will speak to a communications coordinator who will take down your comments and then pass them on to the president's advisers. If you get a busy signal, please try again.

Raise awareness in your community

Darfur Fridays. Make a commitment to take an action for Darfur, each Friday, on an ongoing basis. Wear a Darfur t-shirt; take one action for Darfur; invite one person to join Darfur Fridays. Show your support for Darfur by including your picture in the Darfur Friday Photo Album at DarfurSF.org. Thanks to the San Francisco Bay Area Darfur Coalition for initiating and sharing the idea of Darfur Fridays.

Remember Darfur in your community's prayers. Join the many congregations who've already had prayers for Darfur. Click here to download the "Prayers for Darfur Action Packet" It contains background information, sample prayers, actions to consider, and a list of resources. Contact your local clergy, and, if possible, meet with them personally. Ask your local clergy to consider using an upcoming date for a sermon on the theme of prayer and action for Darfur, a congregational moment of prayer or silence to reflect on Darfur, or a congregation-wide action in support of Darfur. - Organize a Teach-In, with experts on the situation and survivors of genocide, to educate yourself and your community. Contact the Massachusetts Coalition to Save Darfur for help and to tell us about your plans.
- Wear a green wristband. Hand them out to friends, family, co-workers, or anybody interested. Explain why it's important to draw attention to the situation in Darfur. Click here for wristbands.

Write an email to family and friends explaining why this issue moves you and why it is so important to take action. Click here for talking points.

Raise and donate money

Donate money to relief efforts. Make a contribution to an organization that is providing humanitarian aid to the people of Darfur, such as: American Jewish World Service, OxFam and Church World Service.

Hold a fundraiser or a benefit - a bake-sale, car-wash, selling green wristbands to raise money for desperately needed food, shelter, medical supplies, and humanitarian relief. Use your imagination for new ways to encourage individuals to give to a deserving cause!
